December is travel safety awareness month. When it comes to older adults, certain precautions must be taken when travelling by plane, train, car or other.
Our Care Coordinators are ensuring patients are aware of resources and healthcare needs for certain transportation arrangements, especially for this time of the year.
The Holidays bring about many travelling plans, whether it be travelling to see family within the country or going abroad on a trip, our nurses are checking in with your patients to see what they need to plan ahead:
- Medication changes (crossing time zones)
- Risks for deep-vein thrombosis (DVT)
- Prescription renewals
- List of medications for customs
- Risk of infections and dehydration
Although most of these are avoidable, understanding and being aware of them is the first step in preventing any risk of problems during a trip. The Holidays can be stressful, we want to take one less thing off their mind.
